North Island, a Luxury Collection Resort, Seychelles

North Island, a Luxury Collection Resort, Seychelles

Located in the north of the Indian Ocean archipelago, amongst the inner granitic islands, North Island, a Luxury Collection Resort, Seychelles, is a lush, secluded paradise with sustainability at its core and natural beauty that will inspire guests at the deepest level. After being abandoned in the 1970s following the collapse of the coconut industry and filled with alien species outcompeting the indigenous fauna and flora, North Island undertook the ambitious challenge to restore the island to its former glory through its "Noah's Ark" programme. Thanks to the work of the resort’s conservation team, the island is a sanctuary where natural habitats are being restored and critically endangered Seychelles fauna & flora are reintroduced. Bird species including Wedge-tailed Shearwaters and White-tailed Tropicbirds have returned to the island of their own accord and Hawksbill and Green Turtles nest on the resort’s beaches once more in ever increasing numbers. Guests can roll up their sleeves and help support the conservation work during their stay through participation in multiple immersive activities, such as patrolling the beach to locate nesting sea turtles. Every morning dedicated on-site conservationists together with eco-tourist volunteers patrol the four beaches for signs of turtles. Turtle nests are marked out and labelled with bamboo sticks and a coconut, stating the date laid and the species and turtles which already have identification tags are recorded while those without are given unique titanium tags. Other activities include planting indigenous trees and becoming a patron to one of the youngest Aldabra Giant Turtle, alongside breathtaking environmental walks and hikes, which can be paired with a tranquil hilltop picnic.
