JW MARRIOTT DEBUTS IN GREECE WITH THE UNVEILING OF JW MARRIOTT CRETE RESORT & SPA

JW Marriott, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s luxury portfolio dedicated to inspiring mindful moments, proudly unveils its first Mediterranean beach resort with the opening of JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa. Nestled along the coastline of Marathi near Chania, this serene 100-acre resort features 160 elegantly appointed guestrooms, suites, and villas—many with private pools and panoramic views of the Aegean Sea. Designed by acclaimed studio Block722, the architecture integrates seamlessly with the landscape, using natural materials and sustainable practices to create a sanctuary of calm. At the heart of the resort’s culinary philosophy is the JW Garden, the brand’s signature element championing well-being and sustainability. The garden cultivates and supplies fresh herbs and vegetables across six distinctive dining venues, including ANOEE serving open-fire Cretan cuisine and a bespoke mixology programme in collaboration with Line Athens, ranked No. 6 in The World’s 50 Best Bars. The resort is also home to Europe’s first JW Market, a café-retail concept offering locally sourced, thoughtfully crafted products. Wellness is central to the experience, with the ANOSEAS Spa, yoga deck, and panoramic pools offering space for renewal. Families are welcomed with enriching experiences, including The Phestos Den by Worldwide Kids and curated cultural excursions that bring Crete’s vibrant heritage to life.

Marriott Hotels, the flagship brand of Marriott Bonvoy, has opened Luxembourg Marriott Hotel Alfa in the heart of the Grand Duchy. Originally opened in 1932, the property has hosted prestigious events and notable figures, including American generals during WWII. Thoughtfully restored by Iria Degen Interiors, the design preserves original architectural elements while incorporating contemporary artistry rooted in the region. Metallic accents, stained glass, and Art Deco motifs create a timeless ambiance across the space, while restored works by Julien Lefèvre and custom pieces by local talents add cultural depth throughout. The hotel features 153 guestrooms, including 31 suites, complete with Marriott Hotels’ signature Greatroom Lobby, a M Club executive lounge, a fully equipped gym, and five meeting rooms filled with natural daylight. Brasserie Alfa, the culinary centrepiece, reimagines Luxembourgish and French cuisine with a focus on authenticity and seasonality, serving refined classics. The perfect gateway to the city’s rich cultural heritage, the hotel is a stone’s throw away from landmarks including the Bock Casemates and the Grand Ducal Palace, and ideally located just steps away from the city’s main train station.

Marriott International has announced bold expansion plans across the continent, with the anticipated addition of more than 50 properties and over 9,000 rooms by the end of 2027. This strategic growth will see the company enter five new markets—Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Madagascar, and Mauritania—further strengthening the company’s presence in Africa, where it currently operates nearly 150 properties across 20 countries and 22 brands. Driven by strong demand for premium and select-service accommodations, Marriott’s expansion will be led by brands such as Protea Hotels by Marriott, Four Points by Sheraton, and Courtyard by Marriott. The company also plans to introduce branded residences and luxury safari lodges, including The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp and Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection. North and East Africa will account for over 60% of the planned additions, with significant developments in Egypt, Morocco, Kenya, and Tanzania. In West Africa, Nigeria remains a key growth market, while South and Central Africa will see new openings in South Africa, Madagascar, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Autograph Collection Hotels, Marriott Bonvoy’s curated portfolio of independent hotels celebrated for their unique character and rich storytelling, celebrates the addition of the iconic St Pancras London, Autograph Collection. Originally opened in 1873 as the Midland Grand Hotel, this Grade I-listed masterpiece of High Victorian Gothic architecture is refurbishing its guestrooms in Barlow House and the Chambers Suites, whilst reimagining its guest experience. Now defined by time, the hotel introduces a series of rituals and sensory moments inspired by the hotel’s 150-year legacy and time-honoured traditions, from in-room poetry and vintage postcards to daily traditions such as the 5:05 pm punch ritual and 7:35 pm G&Tea service. A Library of Time, QR-guided tours, and railway-inspired spa treatments further connect guests to the building’s storied past. Tribute Portfolio expands its global collection of characterful independent hotels with the addition of Cala Ponte, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, a retreat located in the picturesque seaside town of Polignano a Mare in Puglia, Italy.
