The St. Regis Venice, Exquisite Suites
- 01 January 2023
Venice, Italy– The St. Regis Venice is proud to unveil the full collection of its exquisite Suites, a collection which uniquely encapsulates the artistic and cultural legacy of Venice, combined with a residential feel. The St. Regis Venice, situated across the Grand Canal from Punta della Dogana and Santa Maria della Salute Basilica, marries its celebrated heritage, both historical and artistic, with the St. Regis brand’s modern design and bespoke service.
Throughout its history the hotel, formerly known as The Grand Hotel Britannia, has attracted notable intellectuals and socialites as well as renowned painters J.M.W. Turner, John Singer Sargent, and Claude Monet who, inspired by the hotel’s spectacular views during his stay as a guest in the autumn of 1908, captured the passage of light in his series of Venetian masterpieces. Made up of a unique collection of five 18th and 19th century palazzi, the oldest of which, palazzo Badoer Tiepolo, dates back to the 17th century, The St. Regis Venice offers 130 guestrooms and 39 suites, with many boasting private terraces or Juliet balconies for sweeping views of Venice’s iconic landmarks.
Renovated in its design by London-based Interior Design Studio Sagrada, each room and suite of The St. Regis Venice has been reverently furnished to cherish the artistic and cultural heritage of the building, while also embracing the evolution of La Serenissima and the St. Regis brand’s spirit of modern glamour. Sagrada steered the design in a more contemporary direction for Venice, adopting a lighter style that is far from being heavy and dark. Exploiting the opportunities the building provided, the geometric and straight lines and flush details of the interior envelope contrast with the soft, curvaceous lines of the furniture. Venetian styling is seen throughout the hotel in tailored fabrics and custom, handcrafted furnishings inspired by the gentle curves of gondolas, the patterns of the Doge’s Palace, the paving of St. George’s churchyard, and the water flow of the canal. Drawing inspiration from the Venetian masterpieces of former guest and Impressionist painter Claude Monet, the interiors of the refined accommodations display a distinctive colour palette that represents the passage of light throughout the day from dawn to dusk.
The St. Regis Venice’s first resident artist, Parisian painter Olivier Masmonteil, was commissioned to create original contemporary artworks for the Gran Salone and the Monet Suites. The Venetian tradition of glassmaking also lives on in the renovation, celebrated through a partnership with Glasstress, the creative project of Berengo Studios that marries contemporary art and glass, revolutionising the concept of the latter and forging new paths for artists. Many of these iconic masterpieces are now on display at The St. Regis Venice, thanks to the detailed and attentive work of British art curator Robin Greene.
True artist’s residences, the Monet Suites are infused with poetic spirit. Inspired by the Venetian watercolours of former guest and painter Claude Monet, the interior design of the suites evidences the soft, warm light that has attracted artists to Venice over the centuries.
Focal points in the suite living rooms are a series of contemporary paintings which celebrate Monet’s mastery of capturing the special light of Venice, a bespoke commission to Parisian and resident artist to The St. Regis Venice, Olivier Masmonteil, along with the contemporary interpretation of four priceless artworks by Tintoretto for the hotel’s Grand Salone. For the Suites Olivier Masmonteil followed Monet’s creative footpath in painting the views of the Grand Canal from the hotel in a contemporary language. The resulting series represents a dedicated tribute to Monet; the artworks are conceived to reflect three iconic elements: light, series and colours.
Elegant and residential, yet charged with artistic ethos, the two Monet Suites occupy Grand Canal front row positions in the hotel’s Badoer Tiepolo palace. Multiple windows present overlooks onto Venice’s iconic waterway, while slices of Venetian mirroring amplify the view and beauty outside. The custom-made furnishings are a homage to Venice: the choice of the sofa in the design lounge set in the expansive living room is inspired by the view of the lagoon when flying into Venice, the shape of the chair arms composing the dining table set seating four is inspired by the gondola forcola, the rugs in a “painted” style are a nod to the brush strokes of Monet and the ripples on the Grand Canal. Even the doorbells recall those of Venetian buildings, and the entrance door moulding the footpaths of the city. Completing the suite’s residential allure is a backlit bookcase showcasing a curated selection of objets d’art in glass by Berengo Studios, a sculpture by contemporary Italian artist Massimilano Pelletti and volumes of art and Venetian literature, an escritoire, a well-stocked wet bar and cocktail set.
The grandest of all Monet Suites, the two-bedroom Presidential Suite occupies the entire waterfront-facing space on the second noble floor of the Badoer Tiepolo palace. Its living spaces lead out to Juliette balconies that present uninterrupted views of the entrance to Venice’s Grand Canal, and perspectives that extend 180 ° from San Giorgio Maggiore island across to Punta della Dogana and the beautiful Santa Maria della Salute Basilica, and beyond again to the palatial residences that line the opposite bank of the waterway.
Immersed in some of the best panoramas of Venice, the two Roof Garden Suites occupy superb 7th floor corner locations on the highest floor of the Ca’ Nova palace. The allure of the city’s hidden gardens is a source of inspiration for each suite’s interiors which seamlessly engage with outdoor garden terrace extensions. A choice of indoor and exterior lounge sets and a dining table for up to three elevates the residential experience.
Perched atop the hotel’s Barozzi palace, the Santa Maria Suite presents splendid views of Venice from every corner. The suite’s interiors are where modern design meets the freshness of a Venetian garden with delicate pastel tones, enriched by a collection of objets d’art including contemporary glass ornaments by Berengo Studios, sculptures by contemporary Italian artist Massimiliano Pelletti, and artworks by Aurore de la Morinerie and Amelie Hegardt. On the outside, an outdoor bi-level furnished garden terrace is equipped with lounge set and a dining table for up to four people. This unique setting is also the preserve for refined social events and weddings, able to host private cocktails for up to 40 attendees, or seated banquets for 30 people.
The epitome of luxury, the three bedroom Penthouse Suite is the largest accommodation in the hotel, a hideaway sanctuary set on the uppermost floor of the hotel’s Ca’ Nova palace. A unique wraparound furnished garden terrace showcases extraordinary outlooks from three separate viewpoints over Venice’s city: St. Mark’s Bell Tower, the Grand Canal, Punta della Dogana and Santa Maria della Salute Basilica, San Giorgio Maggiore island, Venice’s northern and southern lagoon and, on clear days, the Dolomite Alps. The play of warm Venetian light filters through the suite’s multiple French window doors and windows. Accessed by its own private elevator, the Penthouse Suite is a superbly comfortable residence for multi-generational family holidays, and getaways with friends.
Characterised by generous and separate living areas, the Masquerade Suite is truly unique: developed on two levels, its design is a playful and forward-looking interpretation of Venetian theatrical and Carnival legacy. Adding drama and fun to this suite is a curated selection of framed masks, fashion illustrations and refined accessories that call out to the city’s cultural calendar.
As a hallmark of the St. Regis experience, all guests have access to the signature St. Regis Butler service. Honoured to maintain a long-standing tradition of making guests feel at home, the St. Regis Butler is poised to provide an ever-present, yet unobtrusive, service attending to guests’ every need.
