MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION OF LIFESTYLE HOTEL BRAND CITIZENM

Marriott International has announced its acquisition of lifestyle hotel brand citizenM, known for its innovative select-service offerings. This acquisition is expected to accelerate Marriott's global expansion in the select-service and lifestyle lodging segments, enhancing its portfolio with more exciting options for guests and Marriott Bonvoy members. The citizenM brand currently operates 36 hotels with 8,544 rooms across over 20 cities in the U.S., Europe, and Asia Pacific, including major cities like New York, London, Paris, and Rome. The brand's pipeline includes three hotels under construction, totalling over 600 rooms, set to open by mid-2026, with significant growth anticipated over the next decade. Founded in 2008, citizenM is recognised for its genuine service, tech-savvy in-hotel experience, efficient use of space, and focus on art and design. It caters to value-conscious travellers seeking technology-driven accommodations, featuring smart in-room design, immersive artwork, local artifacts, collaborative workspaces, creative meeting rooms, grab-and-go food options, and lively rooftop decks. This acquisition aligns with Marriott International’s strategy to expand its lifestyle lodging offerings and provide unique, technology-driven experiences to a growing demographic of travellers.

TRIBUTE PORTFOLIO WELCOMES ITS FIRST SOUTH AFRICAN PROPERTY

Tribute Portfolio, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s growing collection of characterful, independent hotels, has welcomed its first property in South Africa with the opening of the Lord Charles Hotel, Somerset West, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Cape Winelands at the foot of the Helderberg mountain, this hotel blends old-world charm with contemporary design, just 45 minutes from Cape Town. The property spans 22 acres of landscaped gardens, once part of an 18th-century farm, offering a tranquil connection to nature and the region's heritage. A major refurbishment in 2022 revitalised the hotel, including newly landscaped gardens and stylish spaces that celebrate local flora and fauna with bold artwork by local artists. Each of the 198 guestrooms is designed with emerald-green hues, plush bedding, and private outdoor spaces. The hotel offers diverse dining options, including the Garden Terrace, La Vigna Restaurant, and St. Andrews Pub. Guests can enjoy resort-style amenities like swimming pools, a fitness centre, and a spa. The hotel also provides state-of-the-art meeting spaces for events of all sizes.

Autograph Collection Hotels introduces DAS AFFALTERBACH, Stuttgart, Autograph Collection, a uniquely cultivated and exclusively crafted retreat embodying the spirit of Mercedes-AMG founder Hans-Werner Aufrecht's former villa. With a monochrome theme complemented by pops of red, purple, and cognac, along with design touches using materials like leather, stone, cement, and carbon, the interior reflects the attributes of hypercars – loud, bold, luxury performance. While the original villa houses the hotel’s restaurants and wellness facilities, the newly built section features 98 guestrooms and suites furnished with iconic pieces from Cassina, Walter Knoll, Minotti and Artemide. The hotel’s restaurant and terrace bar overlooking the hotel garden are slated to open this summer, where guests can enjoy regional cuisine in style. Wellness facilities include a gym equipped with TechnoGym, a yoga space, and an indoor pool, providing guests with a holistic experience of relaxation and rejuvenation. Situated in Affalterbach, a small village 20 minutes away from the city of Stuttgart, the hotel presents a haven for luxury car enthusiasts to explore automotive history at nearby attractions like AMG's engine factory, Porsche Museum, and Mercedes-Benz Museum.

MARRIOTT INTERNATIONAL SIGNS FIRST AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION SAFARI CAMP IN SERENGETI

Marriott International has signed an agreement to open Autograph Collection’s first safari camp, Mapito Safari Camp, Serengeti, Autograph Collection, set to debut in August 2025. This camp will offer a unique and immersive safari experience in Tanzania's renowned Serengeti wilderness, marking a significant expansion for the brand into experiential, nature-based travel. Located near the Fort Ikoma gate of Serengeti National Park, the camp is positioned along the Great Migration route, where vast herds of wildebeest, zebra, and antelope pass through between May and July. The area is rich in wildlife year-round, including lions, elephants, buffalo, leopards, and giraffes, providing remarkable encounters in every season. The camp will feature 16 tented suites, including a two-bedroom villa, each with an outdoor deck, fire pit, and retractable roof for stargazing. Also available to guests will be a spa, fitness centre, swimming pool, and multiple dining options, such as 'The Boma,' a communal restaurant inspired by traditional bonfire gatherings. The camp’s design will draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape and local Ikoma culture, incorporating sustainable practices to support conservation and minimise environmental impact. Guests can enjoy a range of immersive experiences, including game drives, night safaris, walking safaris, hot air balloon flights, bush dining, and engagement with the local Ikoma tribe. Reservations open on 15th May 2025 for stays from 26th August 2025.
